Founder Dipesh Acharya was a student at Texas State University when he found himself missing foods from Nepal—including momo and chai—that were difficult to find in Texas at the time. He began asking friends and family back home for recipes and learning to cook the foods he missed. What began in a home kitchen eventually became Muda Flavors of Nepal, a stall at Dallas Farmers Market in 2015, followed by a period in the food-truck business and ultimately the permanent Cafemandu restaurant in Irving. Today, Cafemandu describes its mission simply: serve Nepalese food honestly and approachably, using fresh ingredients and preparing meals to order.
